Corporate group travel can benefit employees by allowing them to relax, recharge, and bond as a team.

4 Ways Corporate Group Travel Benefits Employees

Give your team a well-needed break with a corporate getaway.

The term “work-life balance” is thrown around a lot these days, and with June being Professional Wellness Month, it’s a great time to let your employees know how much you appreciate their hard work. A corporate retreat or trip to reward top performers can do wonders for improving employees’ wellness, motivation, and drive when you return to the office.

Corporate group travel benefits employees in a variety of ways, including:

  1. Relax & unwind
  2. Show appreciation
  3. Team bonding
  4. Getting on the same page

Keep reading to learn more about these reasons to invest in corporate group travel!

Relax & unwind

Giving your employees some well-deserved and much-needed time away from the daily grind will ensure that they’re rested and refreshed when it’s time to get back to work. The opportunity to recharge has noted medical benefits as well. According to a Psychology and Health study, employees who vacationed more frequently were less likely to meet the criteria for a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome.

Show appreciation

Taking the time and effort to plan a trip shows your employees that you value their work and appreciate their contributions to the organization. While small tokens like gift cards and office lunch parties are great, a larger gesture can be more meaningful and have a longer-lasting impact on your team as a whole.

Team bonding

Employees may not get much time outside of the office to get to know or connect with their co-workers, and a trip is a terrific opportunity to encourage that. Particularly if yours is an organization with many different departments or office locations, a corporate getaway gives people a chance to get acquainted without video calls and emails. Knowing the person behind the email address will help employees feel more bonded and provide for smoother communication.

Spending time with co-workers in a more relaxed environment can also build what Harvard Business Review refers to as “psychological safety.” Psychological safety means feeling free to speak your mind without fear of judgment or retribution. That feeling can carry on when you return from your corporate group travel and encourage more open communication and collaboration across your teams.

Getting on the same page

It’s easy to get caught up in our daily routines and forget the big picture; a company-wide trip can be an excellent chance to take a step back and regroup. While we recommend allowing plenty of time for rest and relaxation, you can certainly schedule a few team meetings to discuss work-related topics. This can really help employees at all levels and from all departments refocus on a shared set of goals (with the benefit of a beautiful backdrop or exciting event to keep everyone motivated).

The Triple Crown race tracks welcome thousands of people every year to participate in the historic spectacle of horse racing.

Surprising Facts About the Triple Crown Race Tracks

Learn about these historic venues ahead of the final 2022 Triple Crown race.

The Triple Crown comprises three of the most significant races in professional horse racing: the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes. Each spring and summer, thousands of fans visit some of the United States’ most historic race tracks to watch the best of the best in the equine world compete for the much sought-after title of Triple Crown Winner.

In honor of the running of this year’s Belmont Stakes on June 11, read on for some surprising facts about each of the three race tracks.

Churchill Downs

As the home of the Kentucky Derby, the name Churchill Downs is one of the most recognizable names associated with horse racing — second only, perhaps, to the famous 1973 Triple Crown Winner, Secretariat.

The idea for Churchill Downs was originally conceived when Colonel Meriwether Lewis Clark (grandson of explorer General William Clark) attended the Epsom Derby in England in 1873 and was inspired to create a spectacle horse racing event in America. The track was constructed on eighty acres of land that Colonel Clark leased from his uncles, John and Henry Churchill. Churchill Downs held its first official race day nearly 150 years ago on May 17, 1875.

Pimlico

Home to the second jewel in the Triple Crown, the Preakness, Pimlico is located on 70 acres in northwest Baltimore. Opened in 1870, Pimlico has the distinction of being the second oldest race track in the country after the Saratoga Racetrack in Saratoga Springs, New York.

On October 24, 1877, Pimlico became the only racetrack to be honored by the adjournment of the U.S. House of Representatives to watch a race between Parole, Ten Broeck, and Tom Ochiltree, which became known as “The Great Race.”

Belmont Park

The third and final Triple Crown race is the Belmont Stakes at Long Island’s Belmont Park. The first Belmont Stakes was run at the Jerome Park Racetrack in the Bronx in 1867, making it the oldest of the Triple Crown races. A Japanese White Pine, planted on the grounds in 1826, is a part of today’s Belmont Park logo.

In 1910, Belmont Park took a brief hiatus from horse racing when it hosted Wilbur and Orville Wright’s International Aviation Tournament airshow. It featured an air race to the Statue of Liberty and back.

If you’re looking to experience one of these storied race tracks for yourself in 2023, look no further than Superior Executive Services! 1. Country music’s roots
  2. Country music’s First Family
  3. Reinvigorating country music
  4. Music City
  5. Early country music stars
  6. Taylor Swift makes her mark
  7. Country music goes Hollywood

Read on to learn more about these country music facts!

Country music’s roots

American country music dates all the way back to the start of the 20th century. It was originally performed by Southern Appalachian fiddle players and was called “hillbilly music,” referring to the hill country of Appalachia.

Country music’s first family

The Carter Family, which consisted of A.P. Carter, his wife, Sara, and his sister-in-law, Maybelle, became the first family of country music. Beginning in 1927, the Carter Family’s recording and performing career spanned four decades and involved many members of their extended family. The legacy continued into the next generation, with Maybelle’s daughter June Carter later marrying and performing for many years with country-folk legend Johnny Cash.

Reinvigorating country music

After the deaths of Patsy Cline and Jim Reeves in the mid-1960s, country music’s popularity began to wane. However, by the late-1980s and early 90s, country music superstars like Garth Brooks, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Shania Twain burst onto the scene and modern country music, often infused with elements of pop, was back.

Music City

Home to the Grand Ole Opry, the Bluebird Cafe, and Music Row, Nashville is indeed the current capital of country music and has earned its nickname of Music City. However, roughly 300 miles across Tennessee is a town called Bristol, which, in 1998, was recognized by Congress as the official birthplace of country music.

Early country music stars

The first inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame were Jimmie Rodgers, Fred Rose, and Hank Williams in 1961.

Taylor Swift makes her mark

In 2012, Taylor Swift donated $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum to fund the Taylor Swift Education Center, home to the museum’s award-winning educational programs.

Country music goes Hollywood

Hollywood helped bring country music to the mainstream in the 1930s and 40s with the popularization of Western movies and “singing cowboys” like Gene Autry and Roy Rogers.

How to Plan the Perfect Luxury Summer Vacation

Plan the high-end trip of your dreams with these tips from the Superior team.

Summer 2022 will be a reemergence for many who have spent the last couple of years largely close to home, and while we’ll remain cautious and safe as we travel, there’s certainly a lot to celebrate.

Many of our favorite events are back in full force, and we’re thrilled to be planning some amazing trips for our clients in the coming months. Read on for our tips on how to plan the perfect luxury summer vacation!

Plan around a main event

It’s great to have a big, anchoring event around which to center your trip. This could be a trip to Chicago to attend the Lollapalooza music festival, Aspen, CO, for the Food & Wine Classic, or Pebble Beach, CA, for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.  Plan to arrive a day or two before the big event or tack a few days on the end, so you have time to explore the city and relax.

Add on activities

Before the main event, plan a walking or bike tour of the area you’re visiting. We can help you get reservations at can’t-miss eateries and tickets to museums or other local sites.

If your group has diverse interests, we can accommodate those too — we can set up a spa day for those looking to unwind, a day hitting the links for the golfers, or a picturesque hike for the nature lovers. After a long day of sightseeing, you’ve likely worked up quite an appetite. Rather than fight the crowds at a restaurant, we can bring the restaurant to you with a private home chef-created meal just for you at your luxury home rental.

Choosing the perfect accommodations

Before you book, consider your particular needs. Perhaps you prefer the comforts and amenities of a 5-star hotel — room service, fitness center, and a concierge at your disposal make vacation life feel extra elevated. Here are some helpful items to consider when choosing a luxury hotel. Maybe a larger rented house would be better suited for you if you’re traveling with a larger group — you can’t beat more space, flexibility, and privacy!

Plan with Superior Executive Services

People sometimes suggest that lowering your expectations means you’ll never be disappointed, but we couldn’t disagree more. Celebrate one of cinema’s biggest events with our Cannes Film Festival travel packages.

7 Fun Facts About Cannes Film Festival

Learn all about one of cinema’s glitziest celebrations ahead of the 2022 festival.

For two weeks each year, the film world’s best and brightest (plus the biggest names in Hollywood) flock to the French Riviera to celebrate the best in cinema. This landmark event is truly one of our most unique travel offerings.

In preparation for this year’s event, let’s learn some fun facts about the famed Cannes Film Festival!

  1. Red carpet roll-out
  2. Media frenzy
  3. Making the Palme d’Or
  4. International inclusion
  5. Political turmoil
  6. Big budget
  7. Female winners

Keep reading to learn more about these Cannes trivia facts!

Red Carpet Roll-Out

The Cannes Film Festival quite literally rolls out the red carpet for its attendees. The festival organizers use about two kilometers of red carpet over the course of the event and change the carpets three times each day to keep them clean and looking picture-perfect.

Media Frenzy

Each year, Cannes draws between 3,000 and 4,000 journalists and over 200,000 filmmakers, actors, agents, and fans from all over the world making it the second-largest media event after the Olympics.

Making the Palme d’Or

The highest prize awarded at Cannes is the Palme d’Or (Golden Palm), which was created in 1955 when festival organizers asked jewelers to submit designs for the trophy for the top award. Since 1997, Swiss brand Chopard has been tasked with manufacturing the award. It is made of 18 karat gold and is valued at roughly $22,000, though most in the film industry would say the Palme d’Or is indeed priceless.

The Palm d’Or is typically awarded to just one film each year, but occasionally the festival jury’s vote ends in a tie resulting in multiple films receiving the prestigious award.

International Inclusion

In 2010, movies in six new languages were added to the Cannes Film Festival roster to highlight its international character.

Political Turmoil

The first-ever Cannes Film Festival (then called the Festival International du Film) was halted just two days after it began in 1939 because of Germany’s invasion of Poland just the day before. The festival returned in 1946 with a whopping 11 Palm d’Or awards handed out after the six-year hiatus.

In 1968, the festival was shut down halfway through due to political turmoil stemming from violent demonstrations, looting, and labor strikes.

Big Budget

While many of the films that premiere at Cannes are smaller independent films, the festival costs €20 million (about $22 million) to put on. Roughly half of the budget comes from public funding, while the other half is from group contributions and the Official Partners. The festival’s 2022 partners include iconic luxury brands like BMW and Chopard and new brands geared toward a younger audience like TikTok.

Female Winners

Only two women have won the esteemed Palme d’Or — Jane Campion first won for her highly-acclaimed film, The Piano, in 1993. Nearly 30 years later, in 2021, Julia Ducournau won for her film Titane.

Our Triple Crown traveling packing list will help you prepare for your horse race experience.

Traveling Packing List for a Triple Crown Race

Prepare for a thrilling travel experience with these packing suggestions.

Our Triple Crown traveling packing list will help you prepare for your horse race experience.

Each year, trainers, jockeys, and their horses vie for the top spot at the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes in the hopes of becoming a Triple Crown winner.

For those of us attending a Triple Crown race, it’s just as much about the fashion and ambiance as it is about the racing itself. These races are unlike any other sporting event and certainly require some extra time planning and packing.

Here are a few must-have items for your experience at horse racing’s most exciting events.

Outfits and accessories

First and foremost, you’ll want to decide on your outfit for race day and, if need be, any pre-race parties or activities. Make sure you have any associated accessories as well — bow tie, shoes, handkerchief, jewelry, etc.

For the ladies, we definitely recommend a fascinator (aka fancy party hat). There aren’t many times in life where you can don taffeta and tulle atop your head, so embrace the occasion and go all in! Make sure to remember hat pins or bobby pins to keep your headpiece securely fastened. Also, check the venue’s website and be aware of any size restrictions on bags that you are allowed to bring into the race venues.

Comfortable shoes

You may be tempted to get a fancy pair of high heels or new dress shoes to go with your race day dress or suit; just make sure you’re able to break them in before the big day and perhaps consider bringing a backup pair of more comfortable shoes.

Cash

Make sure to stop at an ATM before heading to the big race. While most of the concessions and gift shops do take credit cards, it’s a good idea to have some cash for tipping and smaller purchases.

Sunscreen, fan, and rain gear

Depending on where your seats are located, you might be out in the sun for much of the day, so make sure you’re well protected from the elements with sunscreen and even a small pocket fan if it’s a particularly steamy day. On that same note, if there’s even a chance of rain and your seats are uncovered, bring an umbrella or lightweight rain jacket. You’ll be glad you did!

Portable phone charger

On a fun, action-packed day at a Triple Crown race, your phone’s battery charge will likely be gone faster than the first mint julep of the day, so plan accordingly and bring a portable USB phone charger for some extra on-the-go juice.

Tickets

Lastly, and most importantly, remember your tickets and any pertinent travel information you’ll need to access easily. We recommend keeping a digital copy on your phone and also printing out important items, so you have a physical copy as well. When you travel with Superior, we’ll take care of getting your tickets for you!

The Superior Kentucky Derby Guide for First-Time Attendees

Make the most of your first visit to the Derby!

They don’t call it the most exciting two minutes in sports for nothing! The
Kentucky Derby is, hands down, one of our favorite trips to plan for clients and to attend ourselves.

Of course, horse racing is the centerpiece of the event, but the pomp and circumstance (and parties!) surrounding the race are just as exciting. If it’s your first time attending the Derby, keep reading this Kentucky Derby guide for ways to make it a memorable event!

Do your research

Our Kentucky Derby travel packages include all of the high-end accommodations and entertainment you need to have an unforgettable time. There are many different ways to experience the Derby – you can sit on Millionaire’s Row and hob-nob with the celebrities and glitterati or get bleacher seats in the infield closer to the real action. The Derby doesn’t just have to be one day either — you can get tickets to a number of pre-Derby events and parties (like our exclusive Thursday night kickoff concert!).

Thurby, the Thursday before the Derby, has also become a can’t-miss celebration of Kentucky’s culture, food, and racing. This year’s event will feature folk/R&B band Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats. You can also attend the Kentucky Oaks, the premier and most lucrative race for 3-year old fillies (female horses) held each year on the day before the Kentucky Derby. When you book your Kentucky Derby travel packages with Superior, tickets to the Oaks are included.

There are a lot of components to attending the Derby, and with over 45 years of combined travel planning experience, we would be honored to help you plan an unforgettable and top-notch trip!

Dress to impress

The Derby is a terrific opportunity to try out a debonair look — gentlemen typically wear pastel-hued colors, seersucker suits, saddle shoes, and bow ties. Here is a round-up of some great sartorial options from Town & Country Magazine. As for the ladies, we certainly recommend donning an attention-grabbing fascinator hat; unless you’re invited to a royal wedding, it’s likely one of the few times you can wear one and fit right in.

Try a mint julep

Each year, almost 120,000 mint juleps are served during Derby weekend. And, as the official drink of the Kentucky Derby, the mint julep is light and refreshing but also packs a Bourbon punch. The mint julep pairs nicely with the fine fare available at Churchill Downs and in Superior’s luxury suites.

Place a bet

Even if you’re not much of a gambler, there’s no better time or place to get lucky than the Kentucky Derby! And you don’t have to be a high roller to win big, either — the minimum bet is typically just $2. Exacta, Quinella, Trifecta? Huh? The betting terminology can be a little confusing, but, fortunately, the good folks at Churchill Downs can get you up to speed in no time.

Hear from past attendees

Want to know what it’s really like to attend the Kentucky Derby with Superior? Hear from past Derby travelers in our new Customer Conversations video!

5 Things to Keep in Mind When Booking a Sporting Event Travel Package

Attending a big sporting event like the Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, or the Indy 500 is a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we can help you make the most of your trip. Superior’s sporting event travel packages include our expert planning service, so you don’t have to worry about the details.

When you book one of Superior’s sporting event travel packages, we’ll take care of just about everything for you — but here are some things to keep in mind before you book to ensure your trip is a winning experience:

  1. Plan beyond the main event
  2. Book in advance
  3. Know your budget
  4. Do your due diligence
  5. Pack appropriately

Keep reading to learn more about these tips and how to get the most out of our sporting event travel packages!

Plan beyond the main event

Chances are you’re traveling to attend this sporting event, so this is an exciting opportunity to discover a new city. Do some research on must-see attractions or popular restaurants and reserve a little time before or after the big event to explore.

Again, this is where our experience and knowledge are valuable since we can give you recommendations and make reservations, book tickets, and create a specialized itinerary exclusive to you and your group.

Book in advance

Sometimes we don’t have the luxury of time (and our team can thrive in those situations too), but the more time there is to plan, the better. Booking at least a few months in advance of the sporting event will ensure you’ll have your choice of hotels, transportation, restaurants, and more, without having to fight off crowds of other event attendees.

Know your budget

Between airfare, hotels, food, and tickets to the sporting event itself, everything can really add up. Before you book anything, decide what your budget will be and how you’ll allocate that to fit. When you work with Superior, our team can walk you through ticket, accommodation, and itinerary options that best fit what you’re wanting to pay.

Do your due diligence

If you’re booking tickets on your own, be absolutely positive that you are purchasing through a reputable source. Of course, booking with Superior Executive Services means we do all that research and legwork for you. The last thing you’d want is to arrive at the venue only to be turned away with fraudulent tickets!

Pack appropriately

Make sure you check the weather forecast ahead of your visit and pack accordingly. Pay special attention to the weather on the day of your sporting event if any part will be outdoors. It’s also good to remember that your event might have a dress code or a customary outfit spectators wear (i.e., a Kentucky Derby hat!), so be sure to check before packing.

Attending a big sporting event is an amazing experience, but it can also be complicated to plan. Let the experts at Superior Executive Services help give you an unforgettable adventure and create amazing memories. Contact us today at (608) 665-9070 or send us a message online to start planning your sporting event travel package!
