Plan for travel after COVID-19 with these tips.

After a year of mostly staying close to home, we’re all excited to get back out and travel again. How we travel after COVID-19 will likely look a little different for the foreseeable future, however, so we’ve assembled some helpful travel tips for post-COVID travel.

  1. Book early
  2. Pack prepared
  3. Consider travel insurance
  4. Arrive early at the airport
  5. Hire a local driver
  6. Know what to expect at events
  7. Stay up to date on CDC recommendations
  8. Book with a trusted travel company

Let’s dive into these helpful tips and recommendations for post-COVID travel!

Book early

To maintain safe social distancing, there may be less capacity — and therefore less availability — for many elements of travel, such as airline flights and event tickets. Superior recommends making reservations at least six to eight months in advance to secure exactly the memorable getaway you have in mind.

(Of course, if there’s a summer or fall event you have in mind — such as the Catalina Wine Mixer in September 2021 or the US Grand Prix in October 2021 — let us know, and we’ll do everything we can to get you there in style!)

Pack prepared

Some public and private spaces still require masks, such as planes, trains, and other forms of transportation, as well as some businesses and event spaces. If you are fully vaccinated, you may also want to bring with you proof of vaccination if the event you’re attending requires it. (Keep this in the same safe space you’d keep other valuable documentation, such as your passport.)

Consider travel insurance

Whether or not you decide to purchase travel insurance may change trip to trip and depend on factors such as where you’re going or the cost of your journey. Last year, many insurers declined to cover claims related to COVID-19, but that’s starting to change. Here’s what to look for when seeking a travel insurance policy to cover coronavirus-related cancellations.

Arrive early at the airport

Starting in May, many commercial airlines resumed selling middle seats and reimplementing change fees on some tickets. At the airport, however, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) still has in place many of the same safety precautions to protect travelers and staff.

Give yourself plenty of time to get to your gate. Many airports encourage online check-in and self-service kiosks, which could create a bit of a bottleneck during busy times. To keep lines moving, the TSA asks that you remove belts and personal items from your pockets such as wallets, keys, or phones and place them in your carry-on bag before entering the checkpoint queue. In addition, masks are required, and the TSA encourages all travelers to maintain six feet of social distance and practice good hand hygiene. The TSA continues to adjust its security operations in light of COVID-19; check their website before your trip for the latest news.

Hire a local driver

Rental cars are in high demand these days, and prices are skyrocketing. A better alternative? Superior can arrange for a reliable, dedicated driver as part of your travel package. Plus, you won’t have to worry about finding parking or getting stuck in traffic.

Know what to expect at events

Every venue will have different safety measures and expectations in place, of course. Some standard precautions to look for may include staggered seating, multiple entrances, mask requirements, and touchless ticket and payment systems. You may also need to account for additional wait times to enter if venues check vaccination status or temperatures, for example.

Stay up to date on CDC recommendations

Health and safety guidance continues to evolve as more people are vaccinated. This may impact recommendations on things like face coverings, social distancing, testing, and self-quarantining. Before you depart, check with the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local regulations at your destination.
