Pebble Beach

Make the most out of your Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance travel package this summer.

Use these tips if you’re booking one of our Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance travel packages.

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Car Show truly is a one-of-a-kind event. Concours d’Elegance is French for “a completion of elegance.” The show began in 1950 and was modeled on early exhibitions that were popular in Paris and across Europe in the 1920s and 1930s. At first, many awards were presented to the latest new model cars, but the event has since transformed into a showcase for vintage performance vehicles.

Superior Executive Services offers luxury Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance travel packages that include exclusive accommodations and VIP access. We’ve constructed this insider’s guide to the show for first-time attendees to maximize your time on the California coast.

What to expect

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is the highlight of Pebble Beach Automotive Week. Fans gather from around the world to cheer for their favorites on the 18th fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Links — the only day of the year Pebble Beach is closed to golfers!

The field officially opens at 10:30 a.m., and award presentations begin in the afternoon. Judging is based on style, technical merit, and history, as well as the originality and accuracy of their restoration or preservation.

What to see

It’s nearly impossible to see everything, so take your time and let your instinct and taste guide you. Some highlights include the Concept Lawn, where out-of-this-world designs are often unveiled to the public for the first time ever, and the Ferraris on the first fairway. Be sure to pick up a guide to learn the rich stories behind each automobile.

When booking through Superior, you may add VIP tickets to the outdoor Patrons Patio Winner Circle, adjacent to the Awards Ramp, where you can unwind and watch the show winners parade past. Entrance to this luxury immersion experience includes a gourmet luncheon, all-day hosted beverage service, and more.

What to wear

Of course, you’ll want to check the forecast before you depart for California. Average conditions in late summer are dry and warm; consider dressing in layers for cool mornings and sunny afternoons, and don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and perhaps a fancy hat. Typical attire ranges from resort casual to dressy (although some spectators have been known to arrive in period costume!). Consider comfort and convenience as you may be doing a moderate amount of walking as you stroll around and admire the automobiles.

What to do while you’re in Monterey

Pebble Beach is home to some of the most magnificent championship golf courses in the world. Superior can book you a tee time at Spyglass Hill, with its majestic dual views of the ocean and forest, or among the sweeping dunes of Spanish Bay, ranked among the best public courses in the country.

Superior’s luxury travel packages can also include tickets to the Concorso Italiano. The world’s largest luxury and exotic Italian car show is famous for its collection of Italian automobiles and motorcycles. The event also features Italian food and wine, art, musical performances, fashion, and interviews with legendary automotive designers and collectors.

Other enjoyable attractions in the Monterey area include visiting Old Fisherman’s Wharf, where you can catch a whale-watching tour or kayaking excursion; catching breathtaking views of the ocean as you cruise along the Pacific coastline on 17-Mile Drive; or taking a day trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea to peruse upscale art galleries, designer shops, and gourmet restaurants.

Monterey County is one of the largest wine-growing and producing regions in California — a great reason to explore one of the many local wineries and tasting rooms. There are also plenty of upscale dining options, especially if you’re looking to sample fresh, sustainable seafood.
