What to Pack for the Concours d’Elegance

Get ready to experience Pebble Beach’s ritziest car show in style!

Few events exude style and glamor like the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This annual event — translated to “Competition of Elegance” in English — draws autophiles from all over the world to appreciate some of the world’s finest automobiles.

From Bentleys to Bugattis, owners lovingly and painstakingly restore these vintage vehicles to their previous glory to give them a second life. While enjoying this storied event doesn’t require as much preparation, there are a few things we recommend you bring to ensure a spectacular time.

Here are some must-have items to pack for your visit to beautiful Pebble Beach.

Appropriate attire

As you might guess, attire for the Concours d’Elegance is just as grand as the cars themselves. With average temperatures in the 70s (and dipping into the 50s in the evening), you’ll be quite comfortable in dress slacks and a collared shirt — a blazer is optional, but you’ll see many.

For ladies, a sun dress and light sweater will work well. You’ll also see many attendees donning fascinators and old-fashioned hats (or even full outfits) from bygone eras. The people viewing is almost as much fun as the car viewing!

Comfortable shoes

You’ll likely do a fair amount of walking throughout the weekend, so you’ll want to make sure you bring shoes that are both comfortable and broken-in. If you do get a blister, be sure to have some bandaids and perhaps an extra pair of socks on hand.

Rain gear

Even though it’s August, the weather in this part of California can skew chilly and rainy. You should be prepared for a midday shower with a lightweight rain jacket and packable umbrella.

Golf clubs (or hiking boots)

Chances are you didn’t travel all this way not to golf at the Pebble Beach Golf Links, consistently ranked as the best public golf course in the country. We can help arrange a round for your group either before or after the Concours d’Elegance!

Not to worry if everyone in your group isn’t a golfer; there is something for everyone in the Pebble Beach area, including hiking in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve in Carmel or an electric bike tour along coastal Monterey.

Pebble Beach and its surrounding areas are some of the most picturesque places in the country, so be sure to bring your camera (or free up plenty of space on your phone) to capture memories that will last a lifetime.
