California

The Golden State’s varied terrain and climate offers golfers many unique courses to play. Pebble Beach Golf Links is perhaps California’s most well-known golf course, and though it’s a public course, it can still be difficult to get a reservation. Its rocky coastal views make it both a stunning and very difficult course to play.

Pebble Beach isn’t the area’s only terrific public course, though — the Spyglass Hill Golf Course boasts sweeping ocean views on the first few holes while the rest of the course is lined with Monterey pine trees, making for both a picturesque and visually challenging round.

About 400 miles down the coast is the renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course outside of San Diego. With winter average temperatures hovering in the low 70s, you’re practically guaranteed great golf and beach weather no matter what time of year you visit.

Florida

With beautiful weather virtually year-round and more than 1,250 golf courses (more than any other state!), the Sunshine State delivers in just about every area. TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach is consistently ranked among the top 100 best golf courses in the country. The Pete Dye-designed course is home to the famous 17th hole, known as the Island Green 17th, where the green sits on a small island, presenting a great challenge to players.

The highly anticipated Cabot Citrus Farms Golf Course, about an hour north of Tampa, is set to open in 2024. The courses on Florida’s Nature Coast will live up to its name, with palmetto and oak trees throughout. Citrus Farms will offer golfers two 18-hole courses as well as a 9-hole course and an unparalleled practice facility.

North Carolina

Pinehurst has been on golfers’ radar for years, even earning itself the nickname “the Cradle of American Golf.” The course and the area surrounding Pinehurst have gone through an incredible transformation in the last decade and will host the U.S. Open in 2024. The town of Pinehurst has also added more options for dining and lodging to accommodate the influx of visitors and golf enthusiasts.

South Carolina

Just to the south, the Palmetto State has no shortage of world-class golf courses and luxury resorts to choose from. The Kiawah Island Golf Resort offers a whopping five championship courses alongside luxurious oceanfront accommodations. The Harbour Town Golf Links at the Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island is another course designed by Pete Dye, along with golf legend Jack Nicklaus.
