Get ready for Aspen and more with these suggestions!
Aspen may be most famous as a winter skiing destination, but it’s equally as beautiful in the summertime as well — especially if you’re headed to a high-profile event like the Aspen Food & Wine Classic. Whether you’re traveling with us to Aspen or have booked another one of our food and wine festival packages, you’ll want to be sure you’re packing all of the essentials to have a fantastic (and indulgent!) time.
Here are a few must-bring items if you’re planning a trip to this year’s Aspen Food & Wine Classic, or any other Superior food and wine festival packages:
Extra layers
While the mountain air can be refreshing, it can get quite chilly in the evening at the higher elevation — Aspen’s altitude is roughly 8,000 feet above sea level. No need to bring a parka, but a few sweaters and a light, easily packable jacket should be more than sufficient.
The same advice applies to California, the site of the Catalina Wine Mixer and our custom Napa Valley wine experiences. While you may think of sunny, warm beaches when you think of California, both Napa and Catalina Island can get chilly on occasion so bring a few warm pieces to make sure you stay comfortable after the sun goes down!
Medications
Of course, it’s vital to bring any prescribed medications you may need. But don’t forget your over-the-counter medicines for dietary-related issues just in case, like Tums, Pepto-Bismol, Lactaid, etc. You’ll no doubt be trying lots of new and different foods, and you’d hate for a sour stomach to sour any part of your culinary adventure!
Sunscreen
Be sure and pack sunscreen, especially if you’re headed to Aspen as the sun tends to be stronger in higher altitudes. Likewise, the altitude and sun (and the wine) can cause dehydration, so make sure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout the day!
Bag/purse
Bring an easy-to-carry purse or bag, so you can be hands-free and enjoy the food and drink without juggling your phone, wallet, etc. A small/medium canvas tote or a crossbody purse are great options and won’t take up too much space in your suitcase.
Comfortable shoes
You’ll likely be on your feet for much of the day, so choose a pair of shoes that are comfortable and provide excellent arch support. Between seminars, tours, tastings, meet and greets, and discussions, you don’t want blisters or stiff shoes slowing you down!
Leave room for souvenirs!
With an event like the Aspen Food & Wine Classic or a trip to Napa, you can bring home memories and Malbecs. So make sure you don’t overpack, as you’ll want to leave room to take home gourmet finds or fine wines. If needed, you can also ship home any items that can’t be safely transported in your luggage.
